Thirteen adults and youth from First Baptist Church, Fulton, in Clarke Baptist Association, as well as members of Grace Baptist Church, Oxford, in Calhoun Baptist Association, traveled to Sells, Ariz., June 23–30 in partnership with J.T. and Sheryl Turner of One Way Ministries in Birmingham.
The focus of the missions trip was to witness to the Tohono O’odham people. They taught Vacation Bible School during the day and each night, held a crusade in the parking lot of a local grocery store. During the night service June 29, they baptized many who had been saved during the week, including several gang members.
First Baptist Church, Auburn, in Tuskegee Lee Baptist Association sent a team of 12, including one member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Pell City, in St. Clair Baptist Association, to Brazil July 10–24. The men in the group helped with the construction of a church, while the women worked with Vacation Bible School and English classes and passed out eyeglasses. Nine people accepted Jesus as Savior. This team makes the journey to Brazil at least once a year.
A team of 10 from First Baptist Church, Sulligent, in Lamar Baptist Association and Tharptown Baptist Church, Russellville, in Franklin Baptist Association traveled to Guatemala in July to establish a partnership with New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Guatemala City.
There the team conducted Vacation Bible School, visited door to door and handed out tracts to people on the street, and 20 prayed to receive Christ as Savior.
In June, another team from First, Sulligent, went to work with Operation NOAH Rebuild as part of the state’s partnership with New Orleans’ Zone 6. While there, the 19 team members finished the plumbing work in a home damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
A third team from First, Sulligent, traveled to St. Louis to participate in M-Fuge this summer. There the team of 16 youth and three adults helped with day care, senior adult centers, food banks, painting, construction and yard work.
Ten youth and leaders from Westmont Baptist Church, Birmingham, in Birmingham Baptist Association did cleaning and repairs at Camp Whispering Pines in Citronelle July 19–25.
While on the missions trip — coordinated by CareNet Connection — they painted a house, assisted with a camp for approximately 60 Vietnamese children and held a car wash for the community.
They also canvassed the neighborhood for New Pilgrim Baptist Church, Saraland, in Mobile Baptist Association.
There were nine professions of faith during the trip, including one team member.
