Birmingham to host church administration workshop

In honor of National Church Administration Day, the Central Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA) will host an administrative workshop Oct. 15 at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham.

The day was established to help local NACBA chapters train church ministers and laity through the sharing of accurate, current information and resources regarding church administration. At the workshop, speakers Derrell Crimm, investment advisor representative for Lincoln Financial Advisors in Birmingham, and Thomas A. McKnight Jr. and Michael L. Jackson, attorneys with Wallace, Jordan, Ratliff & Brandt LLC in Birmingham, will address issues of employment law and privacy and current trends in church liability cases, especially those relating to child protection.

Certified church business administrators from the NACBA will facilitate roundtable discussions after each speaker during the 9 a.m.–3 p.m. event.

“Our first belief is that attendees will take away information pertinent to (developing) more effective … stewardship of Christ’s Church in today’s world,” said Pat Ray, event chair and business administrator for Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham. “Churches are not of this world, but we must function within this world, and we believe the need for current and accurate information will continue to grow in its importance. We also hope the attendees will learn where help can be located in the future, both locally and nationally.”
