America’s five largest historically black Baptist organizations are cooperating to raise $50 million to help rebuild Haiti and provide aid to earthquake victims there.
Called the African-American Baptist Mission Collaboration, the joint effort marks the first time the groups representing 40,000 congregations and 10 million Christians nationwide have worked together on such a large scale.
The Progressive National Baptist Convention, the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, the National Baptist Convention USA, the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America and the National Baptist Convention of America plan to provide assistance for plans including five health care clinics, 50 schools, 500 reconstructed churches and 5,000 homes. Other components include providing water, supplies, cash grants and groceries to people in need.
Most of the funds will come from local churches in the conventions. (ABP)
