British prime minister pushing for Internet porn ban

LONDON — British Prime Minister David Cameron is pushing a ban on pornography on public Internet networks, drawing the praise of an anti-pornography organization.

“It is good to see that the UK is addressing the harms of pornography — which feeds into violence, sex trafficking, addiction and abuse,” said Patrick A. Trueman, president of Morality in Media, Inc., in an April 30 news release.

Morality in Media focuses on “opposing pornography and indecency through public education and the application of the law.” Trueman previously served as the chief of the child exploitation and obscenity section at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he supervised the prosecution of child pornography, obscenity and child sex crimes.

The news release said that although the United States has passed laws banning the distribution of hardcore adult pornography, Attorney General Eric Holder disbanded the Obscenity Protection Task Force and will not initiate new obscenity cases.  (TAB)
