Church members and leaders of Cahaba Baptist Association (CBA) gathered for a “Fellowship of Kindred Minds” on Oct. 28 at Siloam Baptist Church, Marion, to celebrate the association’s 200th anniversary.
The afternoon celebration began with an old-timey themed social time in the fellowship hall, complete with tea cakes and sassafras tea. Past and present Cahaba Association churches set up displays along with various entities and other groups related to Alabama Baptist life.
A special service in the historic sanctuary followed the fellowship time. Included in the program were presentations from the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions, the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission and The Alabama Baptist newspaper.
Tom Stacey, director of missions for Cahaba Association, shared his vision for the future of associational missions across the state.
Eleanor Drake, chairperson of the CBA 200th Committee, walked the group through highlights of CBA, the second oldest Baptist association in Alabama.
Originally the association’s membership spanned an area from Monroe County, Mississippi, over to Marion County, Alabama, on across to Blount County and as far east as Montgomery County and south as Mobile County, Drake explained.
“During the past 200 years some 113 churches have been members of Cahaba Association.” (TAB)
