Carmen Acevedo Butcher to Speak at Samford

 Author and literature scholar Carmen Acevedo Butcher will speak at Samford University’s Live at the Library program Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. The public is invited to the event in Samford library’s second floor reading room.

Butcher’s topic will be “Coming Home to Christ in a Facebook World: Our Friend, Teacher and God.” She is the author of books on medieval literature, Christian mystics and linguistics, including “A Little Daily Wisdom” and “Hildegard of Bingen: A Spiritual Reader.”

In April, Shambhala Publications released Butcher’s translation of “The Cloud of Unknowing,” a classic medieval work on Christian contemplative prayer.

Butcher is an associate professor of English and scholar-in-residence at Shorter College in Rome, Ga.
Her Samford lecture is part of the school’s homecoming weekend activities.
