Communication
Communication is essential in every area of life: marriage, parenting, business, government, sports, medicine and church. Untold problems have been created by a lack of good communication.
Here are a few simple tips for good church communication:
1. The goal in communication is for your intended audience to receive and understand the message. It’s not about how you send it. If those to whom you wish to communicate have not received and understood the message, then you have not communicated.
2. Communicate in multiple and creative ways because your receivers have different receptors.
3. Target — don’t broadcast to everyone — those with whom you want to communicate. Don’t announce to the congregation a meeting that involves six people.
4. Plan ahead with any communication. Don’t wait until the last minute. Avoid handing the pastor an announcement as worship is beginning.
5. Evaluate all forms of communication by getting feedback from the intended audience. Evaluating your perception of how you think you are communicating is of little value.
6. Communicate with the newcomer in mind. That is, don’t assume everyone knows everything. Assume no one knows anything.
7. Avoid thinking there is no need to include an announcement in the church bulletin or on the website “because we already announced it.” It is impossible to over communicate.
