Commemorative issue

I want to take an opportunity to pen a word of special thanks to The Alabama Baptist newspaper for two reasons: First, for the second-mile effort to produce a commemorative edition highlighting the 2011 storms and response efforts. Though Alabama will always be sensitive to the struggles we faced together following one of our nation’s largest disaster events, the special edition has also reminded us of the widespread ministry that took place in the days following as Christ worked through His churches to become a hub for help and hope in communities across our state. The Alabama Baptist worked to effectively provide a clear perspective on both the events that took place and the lives that were changed. The ongoing coverage continues to reveal the extent of our Baptist family’s involvement in Great Commission Ministries.

Second, I cannot overlook the dedication and attention to detail for a year of continued coverage in the issues leading up to and beyond the special edition that exposed the challenges faced by associational missionaries and churches involved in rebuild and recovery efforts. The rally cry provided by The Alabama Baptist staff assisted with accurate information that fostered the development of new partnerships and missions projects for churches offering support through in-kind donations, construction teams, VBS and many other missions opportunities as potential needs and progress were communicated.

Though my appreciation may not be as significant as the plaudits and accolades offered from other publishing peers in the news media, I feel confident, based on comments I have received from volunteers across the state, that many feel the same as I regarding the useful and timely information provided by The Alabama Baptist newspaper.

Thank you for your partnership and efforts to tell the story of who Christ is in Alabama Baptist life. It is my privilege to serve alongside as we labor together in service of our Savior.
