Confessions of a Prayer Slacker

Confessions of a Prayer Slacker

Diane Moody. OBT Books, 2012. 184 pp. (Kindle Version).

How can you resist a book with a title like that? As soon as I read about it, I ordered it for my Kindle so I could read it immediately. I needed it that badly.

The book spoke to me immediately. Moody even tells my story in the introduction:

“I’ve got shelves lined with books about prayer. I’ve tried prayer formulas. I even tried ‘praying the scriptures.’ … Sometimes I’d be inspired by a sermon on the subject and recommit myself to pray daily. I’d buy a new notebook to organize my praying. I’d pick a time of day that best suited my schedule. And off I’d go … for a day or two. Time after time, I’d make the effort only to fail again and again. And with each failure, I’d hear that sarcastic and belittling voice in my head reminding me once again what a … sorry excuse for a Christian I’d become.”

In this small book, easily read in a day or so, Moody shares her struggles with becoming the woman of prayer she knows she should be.

The reader is encouraged right along with Moody to revolutionize her prayer life — to meet Jesus every day, building an intimate relationship with Him. By the end of the book, the title should be “Slackers No More!”
