IKI-IKI, Uganda — Wenene Nuru, 23, of Iki-Iki township in Pallisa District of Uganda, dreamed about praying in a church after listening to a Christian-Muslim dialogue on “The Sonship of Jesus Christ” on the radio Feb. 28.
After her dream, Nuru said she went to a celebration where a pastor told her about “Christ being born in a person’s heart” and she accepted Christ. Like most converts from Islam, Nuru kept her new faith a secret. However, the next day a neighbor who had attended the same party informed her father about her conversion.
On March 4, her father, Nuru Rajabu, beat her and began looking for a knife to kill her, she said. A neighbor came to her rescue and she later found lodging at a nearby church and was taken to a hospital the next day.
