Two committees, the credentials committee and the tellers committee, were appointed during the state convention’s opening session Nov. 14. The committee on committees was also named during the Tuesday sessions.
Outgoing state convention President Henry Cox announced the appointments 30 days prior to the annual meeting in accordance with bylaw requirements, but messengers had to ratify the appointments during the meeting.
The convention credentials committee helps with problems regarding registration and seating of messengers. Serving as chairman of the committee was John Nicholson Jr., First Baptist Church, Sulligent. Serving with him were Dexter James, Central Baptist Church, Phenix City; Randy Johnson, Cypress Shores Baptist Church, Mobile; James R. Sampley, First Baptist Church, Ashville; Bill Stephens, Vernant Park Baptist Church, Foley; Bryan Wagner, Camp Springs Baptist Church, Columbia; and Neal Wyatt, First Baptist Church, Andalusia.
Tellers committee members helped convention officers tabulate convention votes. Dan Duncan, Fulton Bridge Baptist Church, Hamilton, served as chairman. Other members were Gary Cardwell, MeadowBrook Baptist Church, Gadsden, and director of missions for Etowah Association; Bill Hart, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Ozark; Ron Horton, New Prospect Baptist Church, Haleyville; Don Smith, Rangeline Baptist Church, Linden; Ricky Thacker, First Baptist Church, Sandusky, Birmingham; and Wayne Woods, Grace Baptist Church, Oxford.
The following were also elected to serve on the committee on committees until 2009: Bryan Blass, First Baptist Church, Gadsden; Jay Wolf, First Baptist Church, Montgomery; and Grant Barber, Eastern Shore Baptist Church, Daphne. (TAB)
