I share the concerns of our Sunday School lesson writer for Aug. 6, Sandra Obrecht, a pastor’s wife. She made this observation, “Are you shaping your culture for Christ, or is the cultue shaping you? In many ways, the culture has influenced the church rather than the church changing the culture.”
church. To say contemporary means what is happening in the culture of the world today. Some say come casual but there is nothing casual about the worship of God. It is serious. Our fleshly emotions and desires like the tempo and beat of the worldly music so some want to bring it into the church. I cannot worship in that atmosphere.
Some churches have removed their choir loft and discontinued their choir. This is sad because great choir specials of great songs of our faith sung with the piano and organ help prepare the hearts of people to receive God’s message by the pastor, who is really the worship leader. Great singing and great preaching out of God’s Word move the hearts of people to get right with God.
The church belongs to Jesus and will never, nor it’s method, become antiquated. We are to keep it holy and never let it be tainted with the world. We are to be different and influence the culture for God and His glory. We are to be pleasers of God and bring others to please Him in Jesus.
