Deep Dark Holes

Deep Dark Holes

Michael Mason. Hartselle: Michael Mason Ministries, 2015. 238 pp. (Paperback).

According to Michael Mason, life is full of deep dark holes, and most of us will end up in one at some time in our lives. While there are a lot of ways to get into a deep dark hole, once there, writes Mason, there are only two options: stay in or get out.

This book takes a look at people in the Bible who found themselves in deep dark holes. Some, like Samson and Jonah, got there as a result of their own sinful actions; they jumped into the hole they were in. Others, like Uriah, Joseph and Daniel, were pushed into the hole by someone else.

Mason wrote “Deep Dark Holes” as an effort to “shine a light down into the darkness” to help the reader learn from the experiences of others. The overall message of the book is a positive one, reminding the reader of God’s unwavering love. In the end, the message is one of hope: “If you can get out, get out. Today. If you can’t get out, turn to God. Trust Him in the holes.”

The profound truths are shared in a simple, direct conversational style that makes the book an enjoyable read.
