Disaster relief blessing

Disaster relief blessing

My husband and I received a blessing after the terrible stress of Hurricane Ivan. We heard that the Alabama Baptists were located at First Baptist Church of Robertsdale.

If one went there and signed up, a team would come help remove downed trees in your yard. We had about 14 trees down. My husband and I are both in our 60s and we needed some help.

The day before the blessing, two men from the disaster team came and evaluated our yard. I think they recommended that the team help remove about five or six trees.

When the disaster team drove up there was a van labeled First Baptist Church of Southside and several miscellaneous cars and a pickup pulling a four wheeler followed. They went straight to work with their chain saws. We began to visit with them. I found out that also represented were members of White Springs Baptist Church and at least one member from Reece City Baptist Church.

As the chain saws cut the limbs many hands moved them to the right of way to be picked up “someday” as well as stacking logs for the fireplace.

It was a miracle being performed in our yard. They made the yard livable.

It raised our spirits. When their work was completed we joined hands with about 15 workers who prayed for us and thanked God for His watchcare over us and everyone in our storm-damaged area. What a blessing. What a miracle. I know the Lord richly blesses those willing to volunteer to serve others.
