We should not fault Brother Jerry Falwell at all for saying what he believes. We should all be so bold.
The problem is that he’s wrong… period. Like many of us, he has pointed to the wrong group.
It is human nature, I guess, to want to think that the “other guys” are at fault. The pagans and gays and abortionists, etc., are not the ones who have brought this terrible thing on us. We, the church, have done it. The Bible says, “If my people, who are called by my name.”
God doesn’t expect the world to follow and obey Him. He expects His people to do so. We are not doing it. Our preachers dream up “cool” programs that look good without ever bothering to check whether they have the desired effect of glorifying God or bringing people to Him and, worse, without bothering to check with God to see what He wants.
We have people getting wealthy off the church while missionaries and ministries are struggling to make the ministries that God called them to work.
We send people to seminaries to learn tradition that is, in many cases, in opposition to the Scripture. In short, we are playing church and until we stop and get serious about obeying God, we can expect the terror to continue and get worse.
