INDIANAPOLIS — More than $55 million will be given to 28 colleges and universities by the Lilly Endowment to fund programs that encourage students to consider careers in full-time ministry.
The Indianapolis-based foundation awarded the grants, which hover around $2 million each, to build programs that encourage full-time vocations as well as ways to integrate faith in secular careers.
Each of the 28 colleges and universities will spend the money differently, but generally it will be used to create “service-learning” opportunities in congregations, fine-tune faculty expertise to help a student considering full-time ministry and establish mentoring programs and summer conferences.
