Muslim extremists assaulted and killed Konkona Kasimu, a Christian evangelist known in several Ugandan districts for his knowledge of both the Bible and the Quran, reported Morning Star News. He had converted to Christianity from Islam.
Kasimu’s church — New Eden Church in Iganga — had organized an outdoor dialogue event on Christianity and Islam on Dec. 8–12 in Uganda’s Busia town. On the last day of the event, several Muslims converted to Christianity, Morning Star said.
For ‘advancing the Kingdom of God’
That evening, as Kasimu and other team members traveled through the Nakalama swamp area en route to Iganga, four men in Islamic attire stopped the group and attacked, said a female team member who also was assaulted.
“Kasimu was killed because of advancing the Kingdom of God,” said Jeremiah Kasowe, pastor of New Eden.
Approximately 12% of Uganda’s population is Muslim. Uganda’s constitution and laws allow for freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another. However, Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, the World Atlas reported.
