FBC Eulaton celebrates 125th anniversary

First Baptist Church, Eulaton, in Anniston celebrated its 125th anniversary Aug. 4 with the help of several former staff members. 

Former pastor Harry Warren, who served as pastor in the late ’70s and early ’80s, spoke during the 10 a.m. worship service. Reggie Kirk, another former First, Eulaton, pastor, also helped during the service. Scott Prater, one of the former youth ministers in attendance, led the invitation, and former music director Dawn Huddleston joined current music director Angela Thrasher to lead a procession of music from the late 1800s to today. 

Three framed certificates were presented to the Calhoun Baptist Association church during the service: one from the city of Montgomery; one from the association given by John Thomas, associate director of missions; and one from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission given by Sonja Adams.

Due to the large crowd in attendance, an overflow room with a live video feed was set up in the fellowship hall to accommodate the additional attendees, noted Pastor Bryan Williams.

Lunch was served afterward, and Williams said about 250 people attended the day’s festivities. 

Also after the service, attendees visited several rooms with special themes. Among those rooms was a “missionary room” that featured the missions work the church has done through the years and a “history room” that held artifacts and historical items.

Looking to the future of First, Eulaton, Williams said a primary vision is to “raise up leaders from amongst us” to go out and spread the gospel. He added the church has sent out missionaries in the past, and “our prayer is that more will be sent out,” he said.
