First Baptist Church Montgomery’s golf carts caught fire this morning (July 14) during the 11 a.m. worship service, causing a blaze in the church courtyard.
According to a Facebook post by Pastor Mark Bethea, the fire was “contained quickly by our wonderful Montgomery firefighters.” The cause of the fire wasn’t mentioned.
“We thank the Lord nobody was injured and we are all well,” he wrote. “We’re unsure the extent of any damage, but we will be fine.”
‘Onward and upward’
Bethea wrote that it was an “awesome day” at FBC, part of which was celebrating the 20th anniversary of the main sanctuary. In September 2021, the sanctuary was set on fire in an arson attack, and the church was able to gather there again in July 2022 after restoration work was done.
“Detours, roadblocks, fires, and storms happen everyday,” Bethea wrote in his Facebook post. “We press onward and upward. We’ve got more gospel sharing and showing left to do!
“FBC Faith Family, thank you for your grace today to get out safely, calmly, and with prayerful concern,” he wrote. “Thank you for your encouragement and prayers. Thank you for being such an incredible family of faith! All is well.”
