The Holy Spirit was on trial at the meeting of the Mobile Baptist Association Oct. 19, and the verdict was to oust Hillcrest Baptist Church from membership in the local association because the members unanimously issued a call to a female to become associate minister. Southern Baptist churches have not been creedal churches.
Baptist churches in Mobile no longer are free to rely upon the guidance of the Holy Spirit in decision-making. A creed has replaced the Holy Spirit as the guide to decision-making by the church and has made Southern Baptist churches in Mobile into a cult rather than a denomination.
It is sad when the church cannot rely upon the Holy Spirit in making a decision to call a female member of the congregation to lead in outreach, witness and ministry without incurring the wrath of a few religious men.
