“Thanks to the quick and diligent response of Mobile Fire and Rescue, the blaze was contained to the sanctuary,” said Kevin Blackwell, executive director of the Mobile Baptist Network, on a Facebook post today (Oct. 23). “The other buildings appear to be untouched. I was also able to visit with several members and staff who stood together on the sidewalk, processing the morning’s events. We joined in prayer, affirming that the church is not a building — it is the people of God.”
The church is part of a five-site network of 3Circle churches including Daphne, Thomasville, Robertsdale and Fairhope.
Blackwell was on site earlier today with Micah Gaston, campus pastor, and some of the other staff members.
More than 50 firefighters from Mobile Fire-Rescue Department responded to the two-alarm structure fire. One fire engine remained on the scene around 6 a.m. to focus on the roof, because the foam continued to burn. The fire appears to have been limited to the sanctuary.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No one injured, killed
“The fire occurred in the early morning hours while the building was unoccupied,” Blackwell said. “I am deeply thankful for that. The sanctuary had been filled with young people just last night, and by God’s grace, everyone was safely gone before the fire began.”
A post at 3Circle Midtown’s Facebook page yesterday highlighted a missions team that had just returned from a trip to Greece. The group was able to minister to primarily Muslim refugees by providing language classes, playing games, providing a meal and sharing the gospel.
“Church family, thank you for your generosity, which allows us to collectively contribute to what God is doing all over the world,” the post said.
