Warren W. Wiersbe said, “People who walk by faith don’t see obstacles, they see opportunities.”
Colossians 2:6 reads, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.” This means we are to live by faith as we have been saved by faith. God provides a special word about your spiritual walk in Colossians 2:1–10.
Let’s note three things.
First, it is a caring word for believers. Colossians 2:1–7 reads, “For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
“Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted, and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”
Cautioning word
This caring appeal is given by one who has a genuine concern for the spiritual walk of others. It is easy to be deceived by “persuasive words.”
Second, it is a cautioning word for believers. Colossians 2:8 reads, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” Here all believers are being duly forewarned through this cautioning apprehension about the possibility of being cheated out of the best life anyone can live “according to Christ.”
Third, it is a calming word for believers. Colossians 2:9–10 reads, “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” Charles Schulz shares the following in one of his Peanuts comic strips: Lucy, watching rain, says, “What if it floods the whole world?” Linus replies, “God promised Noah that would never happen again.” Lucy says, “You’ve taken a great load off my mind.” Linus tells her, “Sound theology has a way of doing that.” Paul employs a calming approach by reminding all believers that “you are complete in [Christ].”
John 1:10–11 reads, “[Jesus] came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
Make certain you have received Christ Jesus as Savior and Lord and may you see and seize the opportunity to walk in Christ Jesus the Lord!
