A protest in Uganda against Christian businesses selling pork recently turned violent, leaving five believers dead and 44 others injured.
A video circulating on social media Nov. 3 appeared to encourage Muslims to protest the selling of pork in proximity to Munir Mosque in Yumbe, Uganda, Morning Star News reported. In the video an Islamist sheik urged Muslims to “cleanse Yumbe of unholy practices.”

Violence and death
On Nov. 4 a peaceful demonstration by Muslims devolved quickly into violence and five Christians were killed, one by stoning and another stabbed to death.
Additionally, churches, shops and homes owned by Christians were vandalized, looted or burned, a pastor reported to Morning Star.
Sources said the sheik told protesters, “Let no Christian business that promotes sin remain standing in our land.”
30 arrests
Police arrested the sheik and some 30 other people in connection with the violence.
The population of Yumbe District is 76% Muslim, Morning Star noted (based on a 2024 census).
Uganda’s constitution and laws allow freedom of religion, including converting from one faith to another, but Christian churches increasingly have received threats of violence, and some Christian converts have been attacked, killed or excommunicated by Muslim family members, World Atlas reported.
