More than 30 dedicated supporters from various roles across the state gathered Nov. 13 to celebrate how the Lord continues to use The Alabama Baptist newspaper and broader work of TAB Media Group.
Guests came to the third annual Friends of The Alabama Baptist dinner event from as far north as Huntsville and as far south as Gulf Shores.
Held this year at Taylor Road Baptist Church in Montgomery, the meal and program took place during the dinner break of the Alabama Baptist Pastors Conference.
‘Strong future’
Gary Fenton, outgoing chair of the board for The Alabama Baptist, shared his belief in the strong future for the 180-year-old media outlet and challenged supporters to continue helping spread the word about what TAB Media Group has to offer.
Fenton, who remains a member of the board for another year, also honored the two members of the board who rotated off:
- Don McMillan, a member of Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, serves his community as circuit judge for the Fourth Judicial Circuit (Bibb, Dallas, Perry, Hale and Wilcox counties).
- Arthur Williams, a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, served as chair of the board during the transition from Bob Terry to Jennifer Davis Rash as TAB’s president and editor-in-chief in 2018–2019 and most recently chaired the finance subcommittee.
New members
Fenton also introduced incoming board members:
- Barbara Davis, a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mobile, has served in a variety of roles through the years and is an artist with two Christmas books soon to be published.
- Randy Pittman, a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, recently retired as vice president of university advancement at Samford University.
The new officers of the board stepped into their roles Nov. 14. They are: chair, Scott Swedenburg, Dawson; vice chair, John Brock, Highland Baptist Church in Florence; and secretary, Chris Roberts, North River Church in Tuscaloosa.
