GamePlan, The Alabama Baptist’s annual special issue devoted to sports evangelism, will be available soon.
Featured in this year’s edition are University of Alabama (UA) senior left defensive tackle Jarret Johnson and Auburn University sophomore receiver and return man Joe Walkins.
Along with standout Christians from the Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers, players and coaches rom other schools are included.
Players include Selma High School senior quarterback Jai Miller, University of Alabama at Birmingham fifth-year senior quarterback Thomas Cox and former UA standout guard Mike Brock.
Coaches featured in this year’s edition of GamePlan are Troy State University offensive coordinator John Shannon, Muscle Shoals Trojans head football coach Toby Greene and retired head coach for the University of North Alabama Bill Hyde.
A special feature highlights Jacksonville State University’s one-season football kicker and all-star soccer player Ashley Martin.
When Martin nailed three extra points against Kentucky’s Cumberland College on Aug. 30, 2001, the Gamecock kicker made history.
With one swing of the leg, in front of 11,312 fans, Martin became the first female to ever play for and score for an NCAA team. Later in the season, she became the first woman to score against an NCAA team when she kicked an extra point against Sam Houston State. She finished the season 4-for-4 on extra points.
While Martin chose not to continue her football career, her story of balancing her Christian faith in the world of high-profile athletics was a must for the 2002 edition of GamePlan.
Complete with player testimonies, action photographs, updated statistics and an easy-to-follow plan of salvation, GamePlan, now in its sixth year, has become an effective evangelistic resource for many Alabama Baptist churches.
The cost is 25 cents each, and the minimum order is 20.
