In the Baptist News Briefs section in the July 24 edition of The Alabama Baptist, it stated that the American Baptist churches had established a regional association designed for the development of gay-friendly churches. God has made it clear in His Word that homosexuality is an abomination (Lev. 18:22), and those who engage in such things will not inherit His Kingdom (1 Cor. 6:9).
The church is not an association, conference, building or congregation. The church is the body of Christ comprised of individuals who believe that God is who He said He is and that He will do what He said He will do. It is not the job of the church to cater to individual facets of our society — it is to be examples of Christ in a way that would want the lost to ask why live the way we do. Only those convicted by the Holy Spirit of their disgusting human nature and self-will and who repent and receive Christ as their Savior and continue in faith are church members.
My recent Sunday School lesson came to mind in which the apostle Paul warned the Galatians about falling prey to the false doctrine of needing the law as well as grace for salvation (Gal. 5:2–4). If we, according to Paul, can fall from grace if we trust in the Ten Commandments, then will we be spared if we condone that which God has declared abominable? I think not.
