Don Gentry
Don Gentry is someone you should know because he has served as interim pastor of five churches since retiring as pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church after 13 years of service.
Q: Why did you begin serving in interim pastoral positions?
A: This seemed like what God wanted me to do. I enjoy meeting the different congregations and trying to be of help to them.
Q: What does this ministry demand of you?
A: The way I have gone about it has required time away from my family. I am currently serving the second church in Hawaii and it means my family (is0 still back in Decatur.
Q: What do you get out of it?
A: I have made many friends. It is an opportunity to help a congregation at a critical time.
Q: How does your family support you in your ministry?
A: I am fortunate my family supports (me) with prayers and finances, when needed, as well as just being there in the decisions that are made.
Q: What difference do you think this ministry will make in the future?
A: I have seen some exciting things happen while here, and churches have said that things I have encouraged them to do have been helpful. It is enough to think that I can make a difference for the better. If God continues to bless, then we shall continue.
Q: How do you see yourself involved in this ministry in the future?
A: I enjoy serving in Hawaii especially because there is so much that can be done. The people here have been very responsive. There are not many men available to serve in interim capacities in the Islands, so it is a great help to have someone who will come for an extended stay.
