Thank God there are still good Samaritans in the world today. Recently after the close of the last session of the Alabama Baptist State Evangelism Conference at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, my husband and I were walking to our car when I tripped on the uneven sidewalk and fell face first. Others who were also leaving the service merely walked on by.
A young couple, Jason Rupert and Tiffanie Caldwell from the Rocket City Community Church, did not pass by. They stopped. As Jason helped my husband lift me to my feet, the blood began to gush from my nose and from a cut. The young lady was a nurse and these two rescuers didn’t stop to call 911. Jason took me, blood and all, to the hospital in his new car. Tiffanie helped my husband find our car and came with him to the hospital.
Tiffanie went behind the scenes with her nursing credentials and located wet paper towels to get the blood off, gauze pads to contain the bleeding and finally, an ice pack. Jason and Tiffanie even helped to call our out-of-state hospitalization insurance provider for emergency room verification. They also stayed with us for more than two hours until the bleeding slowed. Due to the crowded emergency room, Tiffanie’s care would be the only medical attention I would receive at the hospital.
These young adults didn’t just go to the service then walk out and go on their way. They stopped to minister to an older couple who were disoriented and hurt. Their witness was an inspiration to us.
