Jack R. Wright Jr. recently retired as pastor of Gosport Baptist Church, Whatley, after 43 years.
Wright was in ministry for 68 years, including serving as director of missions for Clarke Baptist Association for 38 years, director of Camp Morvin for 38 years and pastor of Asbury Baptist Church, Grove Hill, for 16 years. He was licensed to preach at Trinity Baptist Church, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1954.
In 1960, Wright started as associate pastor/youth director of Oakdale Baptist Church, which later merged with West End Baptist to become Government Street Baptist Church, Mobile. He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Birmingham. Wright has four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
