Thomas Milton Hamby, pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, Talladega, in Coosa River Baptist Association, died Sept. 23. He was 98.
Hamby, who held a doctorate in theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., spent more than 50 years of his life serving as a pastor — 21 of those at First, Talladega.
His other pastorates included First Baptist Church, Lanett, in East Liberty Baptist Association; First Baptist Church, Guntersville, in Marshall Baptist Association; and churches in South Carolina and Indiana.
In addition to having written two books, “Christ and the Cross” and “Settlement of the Blue Ridge,” Hamby served as president of the Alabama Baptist Pastors Conference and the Alabama chapter of Southern Seminary alumni. He was for many years a member of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and served on numerous committees related to the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
Hamby is survived by two daughters and one granddaughter. (TAB)
