Holy land moment

Holy land moment

I really enjoyed reading Bob Terry’s articles on his experience on the Sea of Galilee. We often hear that for everyone who visits the Holy Land, there is at least one “defining moment.” It seems that yours might have been there on those historic waters as was mine.

As members of Asbury United Methodist Church in Fort Payne, (I read The Alabama Baptist regularly) my wife and I had the wonderful opportunity in the year 2000 to join 14 others from our church for an educational tour of Israel. It was a tremendous experience.

My “defining moment” came as our group was drifting along on the Sea of Galilee in a small boat late one beautiful afternoon a couple hundred yards or so off the shore where Jesus walked so many times. We were softly singing, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus; There’s just something about that name!”

Suddenly, in the distance, it seemed that I actually saw Him standing on the seashore. Jesus was waving, very enthusiastically, just as a very good acquaintance might do. I began weeping as I leaned over on my wife’s shoulder and told her about it. In that moment, Jesus became not only my Savior but my very close friend as well. I now think of Jesus in a whole new dimension. And I look so forward to seeing Him face to face.
Thank you for reminding me of that wonderful moment in my life.
