IMB missionaries in Ukraine lay groundwork for medical team

If you’ve ever been fishing you’ve most likely baited a hook and dipped it into the water in the chance that a fish might bite. Professional fishermen can look at weather conditions and areas around the water to identify what’s the best bait and location to catch fish.

In the same way, missionaries prepare the groundwork by serving on the field all year long. In the case of Ross and Kasey Lewis, who serve as International Mission Board missionaries to Dnipro, Ukraine, their normal week includes discipling locals and participating in church planting efforts.

When teams from churches go to assist, the groundwork has already been laid and the locations have already been identified where they can make the most impact.

A team of eight Vaughn Forest Baptist Church, Montgomery, members, along with a four-person team from The Vine Church, Perry, Georgia, traveled to Ukraine on Sept. 22–29 to hold medical clinics in Dnipro and four surrounding villages.

Blood pressure, vision

The medical clinics provided blood pressure and vision checks along with the opportunity to meet with a doctor. Every person was greeted by locals from a church plant in the area and the gospel was shared. Approximately 525 people were seen and 56 people prayed with volunteers to receive Christ.

Local church members where the clinics were held will follow up with the new believers and work to plug them in to discipleship groups through the local churches.
