I love and enjoy my many King James Version (KJV) Bibles and often preach out of this version of God’s Word. Once I was told by a pastor that I could not preach out of the New KJV from his pulpit, (because it was not the original KJV). During recent work on a book, I began to list the KJV words used that no longer carried the true meaning of that word. I was amazed at the huge number of words that communicated the “wrong” meaning. The question I am asking is, “How many ‘wrong or distorted meanings’ will KJV-only folks allow before they give in and allow others to read another version without condemnation?” As I said, my New KJV is condemned in some churches. I cannot list all the words I found erroneous in just four books of my KJV Bible but here are those this space will allow: charity, shew, tempting, chambering, wantonness, ghost, thitherward, was meat, propitiation, quicken, gainsaying, twain, wist, lasciviousness, conversation, give place, nigh, prophecy, hitherto, sanctified, divers and many more in just Romans, 1 Corinthians, Ephesians and 2 Timothy. We churched folks have learned but most lost, unchurched people have no clue what these words are saying in the context. Yet we tell them they must read KJV only. I do understand the argument against allowing other versions, but where will the “mis-reading” of God’s Word finally stop? Will we allow other versions at 50 words, 100 words, 1,000 words? How unreadable will the KJV get before we allow people an understandable version? How many words?
