October 14, 2012, marked the 100th anniversary celebration for Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
The 10 a.m. worship service was primarily filled with singing and longtime and former members sharing memories of their time at the Calhoun Baptist Association church, according to chairman of deacons Jimmy Littlejohn.
A representative from the Alabama Baptist Historical Commission also presented a plaque during the service to commemorate the church’s centennial, and interim pastor Billy Harris shared some remarks to the more than 100 attendees.
One special element of the day, Littlejohn said, was the booklet the anniversary committee compiled of old church photos, photos of former pastors and various other memories of the church titled “Pleasant Valley Baptist Church 100-Year Celebration.”
After the service, everyone gathered in the fellowship hall for an anniversary lunch. “It’s just a loving fellowship, folks who love the Lord and love the church,” Harris said of Pleasant Valley, adding the future of the church is “encouraging.”
He said the anniversary was a “time of celebration and renewal of friendships” and an excitement about “what God has done at Pleasant Valley for these 100 years.”
