The article about the “Jesus” character, Joel Lagrone, stated that Mr. Lagrone was asked to play Jesus presumably “because of his long hair, beard and singing ability.”
What is the biblical image of Jesus? We are told little about His physical appearance. Evidently He had a beard. “I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard. I did not hide My face from shame and spitting” (Isa. 50:6).
He was Semitic by ethnicity. Other than that we have no clue as to His human appearance except that His hair was not long; it was short. The Bible says, “Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?” (1 Cor. 11:14, NKJ). Jesus never did anything to bring shame to His Father nor to any man.
Therefore, if we say a man with long hair and a beard resembles Jesus, we are under a misapprehension.
