If you knit or crochet, or are interested in learning the basics, then you just might want to join the ministry group at The Baptist Church at McAdory, McCalla.
The group, which began four years ago, just completed 75 soap sacks to go in baskets that Love in Action food pantry, Pelham, made for Mother’s Day.
Anne Albright, the leader of this ministry, said, “Women who are on government food stamps are not allowed to purchase soap with this money, so to let these ladies know they are loved, we make these great sacks with soap in them.”
The crocheted or knitted sack can be used as a washcloth Anita Williams, another member said. Albright said the word sack means “supporting the community with kindness.”
Currently, there are 12 ladies involved in the knitter/crochet ministry. They meet every Monday at the church. Additional ministry projects include making chemo hats, newborn baby hats and lap blankets and given to the University of Alabama Hospital. “We will be donating soap sacks to Grace Place, Bessemer, as an ongoing project,” Albright said. If anyone is interested in helping with donations or becoming a part of this ministry, contact the church: 205-477-8265.
