Made from a manger

Made from a manger

I have often wondered how many mangers Jesus made as a carpenter. I have also wondered who made Jesus’ manger. The bigger question to my mind is: What did the Master make of His manger?

My first thought is He made of it a cradle in which to be born as our Savior. The cradle motif fascinates while the “crèche” tradition permeates Christmas.

He next made of His manger a cross upon which to die for our sins. Remember, long before the nails held the carpenter, the carpenter held the nails. Note that three nails and two boards build a bridge for us to cross to glory.

He also made of His manger a coffin in which to bury sin forever. All our sins are forgiven because of Jesus.

Finally the Master made of His manger a throne from which to rule the universe. Handel’s magnificent

“Messiah” sums up this thought as a musical tribute to the awesome power of God. The old Latin version of Psalm 96:10 says: “Say among the heathen that the Lord reigneth from the tree.”

All some see at Christmas is a baby, a manger and three brown cows. What a difference this Christmas if you will take Him out of the manger and invite Him to live in your heart.

Heavenly Father, we are extremely grateful for all the Master made of His manger for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
