MOGADISHU, Somalia — A man has lost his ability to speak after his wife allegedly struck him with a metal object for having a Bible study with secret Christians, Morning Star News reported.
Abdulai Ramadan’s wife reportedly attacked him Jan. 20, furious that he was conducting the Bible study after she had demanded that he renounce his faith in Jesus Christ. Communicating in writing to Morning Star News, Ramadan stated that he had put his faith in Jesus in 2020. On Dec. 25, 2024, his wife became angry when he, their four children and three secret Christians celebrated Christmas together in the family’s home in Somalia’s Lower Juba region.

Ramadan wrote that his wife forbade any more Christian activities in their home.
On Jan. 20, his wife learned that Ramadan and a visiting friend had engaged in prayer and a Bible study earlier in the day. She allegedly struck Ramadan with a heavy metal object.
According to one child, Ramadan fell down unconscious, Morning Star reports. The child was later able to call a pastor, who took Ramadan to a hospital.
The U.S. Department of State says Somalia’s constitution establishes Islam as the state religion, reports Morning Star.
Somalia is No. 2 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of places most difficult to be a Christian.
