A body matching the description of Marilane Carter has been found inside her vehicle in West Memphis, Arkansas, according to media reports in the area.
The Crittenden, Arkansas, Sheriff’s Office reported today (Aug. 18) that authorities there had found a vehicle matching Marilane’s inside a shipping container in a rural area of eastern Arkansas near West Memphis. A body matching Marilane’s description was found inside.
A statement posted to the “Find Marilane” Facebook page around 5 p.m. Central time on Aug. 18 confirmed the grim news:
“With a heavy heart we share this update with everyone. Today Marilane’s vehicle was found in West Memphis, AR, in Crittenden County. A female was found deceased in the vehicle. Law enforcement says that foul play is not suspected. The family asks for your thoughts and prayers right now and in the upcoming days.”
Positive identification of the body is pending.
Missing since Aug. 2
Marilane, 36, was last known to be in the vicinity of the area where her car was found on the night of Aug. 2. Her trail from that point had gone cold, authorities said in an Aug. 14 press conference.
A 2008 graduate of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School, Marilane leaves behind her husband, Adam, pastor of Leawood Baptist Church in Leawood, Kansas, and three young children.
