Marion ministry partners with churches, Judson to distribute Thanksgiving meals

Partnership and collaboration were the trademarks of the Sowing Seeds of Hope (SSOH) annual Thanksgiving food bag distribution that took place Nov. 17.

SSOH staff, Judson College student volunteers and members of Mountain Brook Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa, met at the SSOH Job Training Center in Marion to sort, package and distribute 227 bags to Perry County residents in need of Thanksgiving meals.

Volunteers decorated brown paper bags with “Happy Thanksgiving” messages and filled them with rice, potatoes, bread, canned goods and Marion Food Valu gift cards.

Audri Thicklin, a Judson freshman from Hayneville, said the experience “made her heart smile that we would be helping so many families” in Perry County. The best part, she said, was working with volunteers from various ministries “for one common goal. The project pushed us to communicate with each other to get the job done. … I would do it all again.”

SSOH is a nonprofit organization in Marion dedicated to improving the quality of living and working in Perry County through economic and community development initiatives.
