NICOSIA, Cyprus — SAT-7, a satellite television service in Arabic for the Christians of the Middle East and North Africa, has interrupted regular broadcasting to air a message of encouragement to the millions of Christians living in the region.
Terry Ascott, CEO of SAT-7, said the message was a show of solidarity for Christians in Iraq. “During this time of war, we felt it was important to send a message of encouragement to all Arabic-speaking Christians, especially those living inside Iraq [estimated at 600,000]. Regardless of the politics involved, it is important that these Christians know that the rest of the Christian world has not forgotten them. We all pray that this conflict will be short, that innocent lives will be protected and that God’s purposes will prevail,” said Ascott.
Additionally, SAT-7’s message is intended to comfort Christians who live across the Middle East and North Africa, many of whom “now face additional pressure and even retaliation because they are followers of Christ,” the organization said in a statement.
