In a previous Ministry Tip, we took a look at how to find prospects. Some prospects come to church gradually, but for special events like Vacation Bible School (VBS) or other large outreach events like fall festivals, large numbers are found in a short time. Here are a few tips on following up on prospects.
1. Have a follow-up plan well before the event. Be sure you have a process that is clear so everyone knows what his or her role is.
2. Use existing structures and organizations for follow-up. There is no need to keep reinventing the wheel. For most churches Sunday School is the best organization to assign prospects for follow-up.
3. Put the follow-up plan into action immediately. For example if VBS ends at noon on a Friday, the children and their families need to be followed-up before Sunday. The longer one waits to follow-up the less likely it is they will be reached. Time is crucial in follow-up.
4. Be diligent and never give up. If a phone or address is incorrect for a prospect, don’t toss it. Be tenacious until you find them. It may determine where they spend eternity. (chipwarren@bellsouth.net)
