Is your church planning to take a missions trip in 2015? Here are some do’s and do not’s you might consider.
Do: Plan ahead. Your best option is a vision journey or pre-site visit.
Don’t: Plan ahead of your host. Ask what the needs are before planning.
Do: Work through someone on the field. This will support our missionaries and effectively safeguard your team’s efforts and money.
Don’t: Send money for projects without the missionaries’ input. Ask for guidance in choosing any projects to finance.
Do: Prepare your team. Besides the paperwork, learning about an area’s culture, worldview and travel safety are all things your team needs for a good experience.
Don’t: Expect that since you have never had an issue with accidents, delays, etc., that they won’t arise. Know what to do.
Do: Establish a relationship with a missionary. Churches who return to the same area multiple times have greater results.
Don’t: Choose a different location each year. This is the least effective way of reaching people in other cultures.
Missions is more than a trip, a project or experience. It is a life-changing experience.
