Missionary to Philippines dies in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM — Mary Van Dao Pham, International Mission Board missionary to the Philippines, died Dec. 27 in Birmingham. She was 50. She and her husband, Long Pham, were on stateside assignment and staying in the missionary house of Hunter Street Baptist Church, Birmingham, where they were members.

Pham, a native of Vietnam, immigrated to the United States in 1975. After marrying Long Pham in 1980, the couple left in 1984 to serve in the Philippines. Pham had obtained a degree in theology and was working on a master’s degree in clinical counseling when she was diagnosed with cancer in summer 2003.

Pham is survived by her husband, three children, her father, two sisters and two brothers.
