Cropwell Baptist Church, Cropwell, took a group of 24 — 17 youth and seven adults — to New Orleans June 18–24. The group participated in MissionLab on the campus of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and conducted a children’s day camp, backyard Bible clubs and homeless ministry in the French Quarter. Eighteen people of all ages made decisions for Christ.
Eddie Gibson, the missions pastor for Sardis Missionary Baptist Church, Birmingham, took a team to Monrovia, Liberia, on a medical missions trip June 18–27. The team worked closely with JFK Memorial Hospital, providing both human and material resources. JFK is the largest medical facility in west Africa and has suffered greatly during years of revolution and civil war, leaving it in need of modern medical expertise, equipment and supplies
A team of 102 from First Baptist Church, Pelham, traveled to Oak Grove, Ky., June 25–July 1. The group worked with a small, relatively new Southern Baptist church, Living Waters Fellowship, located just one mile from Fort Campbell, Ky. Twenty-two adults and youth traveled the short distance to Clarksville, Tenn., to install Sheetrock at Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church. The 80 other First, Pelham, volunteers held block parties and four backyard Bible clubs. Some also mowed yards for free and witnessed to the owners. The group talked to 962 prospects and saw 90 make decisions for Christ.
Pastor Keith Wrenn and 73 members of First Baptist Church, Springville, made their first missions trip to Louisa and Blaine, Ky., June 25–July 1. The group worked with Unity Baptist Church, Blaine, Ky., to meet the needs of those living in the surrounding mountain area. The major needs there are food, running water, electricity and clothes.
A team worked at Unity Baptist to erect, frame, wire and side a 70-foot-by-25-foot fellowship hall with a kitchen, office and bathrooms. Another team held Vacation Bible School at Blaine Elementary School for 43 children. Ten decisions were made for Christ. Thirty-four people made decisions through the efforts of an evangelistic block party team. The Christian school located at First Baptist Church, Louisa, Ky., let the group use its kitchen to prepare meals.
First Baptist Church, Sylacauga, sent a team of 32 to Honduras June 25–July 2.
Evangelist Terry Veazey, a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church, Montgomery, and six other Southern Baptists, three from Eastern Hills Baptist, traveled to Zambia July 1–9.
Veazey was the speaker for the annual evangelism conference of the Copperbelt Baptist Association, held in the town of Kalulushi, with nearly 1,000 Baptist pastors and church leaders in attendance. The team members taught various workshops and led in worship.
After the conference, Veazey and the team conducted evangelistic outreach in the public schools of Kalulushi and the surrounding areas, reaching more than 10,000 Zambian students with the gospel in only three days. The group also conducted a four-day, open-air evangelistic crusade in the township of Chibuluma, hosted by the Chibuluma Baptist Church. More than 5,000 people attended the crusade, and nearly 500 registered decisions during the four services.
More than 30 youth and several adults from New Hope Baptist Church, Pell City, took a missions trip to Gulf Shores July 1–4.
The public beach served as the site of backyard Bible clubs with games, face painting and sand castle building drawing children in to share snacks, make crafts and hear Bible stories. Adult visitors to the beach were reached with street evangelism techniques with two making decisions for Christ.
Westwood Baptist Church, Alabaster, partnered with Dan Moran Ministries Inc. to minister to the people of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The group of 11 students and six adults left Birmingham July 8 for a week of community outreach. The group worked with three Honduran churches — Jerusalem Baptist Church and two daughter churches, New Dawn Baptist Church and Fountain of Life Baptist Church.
The group did cleanup and painted at Jerusalem Baptist and participated in the church’s youth service July 9. At the SOS Children’s Village and two schools, they made crafts, sung worship songs they had learned in Spanish, put on a puppet show and played with the children. The group also visited a high school near New Dawn Baptist where about 50 students and administrators indicated they prayed the prayer of salvation and 10 of those said they wanted more information about attending the church. Dan Moran Ministries and Parkway Baptist Church, Auburn, returned to Honduras for a construction missions trip from July 22–29.
Loveless Park Baptist Church, Bessemer, sent a team of 17 to North Greenville College, a Southern Baptist institution in Tigerville, S.C., to do construction work on the school June 11–18.
From July 9–16, a team of 65, representing nine churches in Winston Baptist Association, traveled to Corbin, Ky., where they worked on Faith Baptist Church’s new building. The team installed insulation and drywall in the sanctuary, education and fellowship areas. Twelve members of the teamworked with backyard Bible clubs at Corbin Manor Apartments.
