A mob attacked men, women and children in a Christian worship service in India, but the pastor, his wife and three others were charged.
A Hindu extremist mob invaded the worship service at a church in Nohar city in India’s Rajasthan state Sept. 28, Wazir Singh, the church’s pastor, told Morning Star News. The mob demanded that Singh teach congregants about Hindu gods and read Hindu passages instead of the Holy Bible.

The mob summoned police after Singh responded, “My faith is in Jesus Christ, and my country gives me the right to choose whom I want to believe in and freedom to practice my faith.”
A Hindu nationalist group filed a police report, accusing the pastor and his wife of promoting enmity among groups, committing deliberate acts to stir up religious sentiments and gathering unlawfully, among other charges.
Three Christians, whom Singh said do not attend the church and were not present when the mob attacked, were also named in the police report. Those three and Singh’s wife were not arrested.
Singh remained in jail until Oct. 4. He initially was denied bail Oct. 3 after a judge read a pamphlet that Singh said the mob printed to frame him. He also told Morning Star that prisoners were threatening to assault him until some Muslims intervened.

Singh’s house was seized, and his family had to flee 80 miles to safety.
India is No. 11 on Open Doors’ 2025 World Watch List of the 50 places most difficult to be a Christian.
