One of my favorite songs is “Redeemed” by Big Daddy Weave — specifically the part of the chorus that says, “so I’ll shake off these heavy chains, wipe away every stain.”
When I came to Jesus 15 years ago, I gave every sin in my past to Him and allowed Him to take it. And as we are told in 1 John 1:9, “He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
In my heart I know this to be true, and my entire relationship with Jesus is based on this truth. But have you ever noticed how scheming the enemy is? He will throw in your face everything bad you have ever done to make you think that you are guilty and unworthy of God’s love and amazing grace. He will let us become so immensely burdened by all of what is going on in this world to the point where we are afraid to step outside our front door.
We are told in 1 Peter 5:8 that “the enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” He knows what buttons to push, what sins to haunt us with and how to make us doubt and fear. But hallelujah, in Psalm 5:11 we are given this comfort: “But let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread Your protection over them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.”
Take heart dear friend, I have read the end of the Book. God — and all of us who are His children — win the war!
