Nearly a year after fire, Pleasant Hill starts rebuild

About 100 people from 10 states descended on Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Moundville, on March 15 to frame up a new sanctuary for the congregation that lost its building to fire nearly a year ago. The church has been meeting in a mobile chapel provided by Alabama Baptists’ Cooperative Program gifts ever since two weeks after the April 14, 2009, blaze destroyed its building.

“This will be a great ongoing project for missions teams,” said Mel Johnson, disaster relief strategist for Alabama Baptists. “When you’ve got folks like that building for the Lord, the quality is second to none.”

Carpenters for Christ is leading the effort, and volunteers will continue to work on the project until completion. (TAB)
