It’s hard to believe that it has been 14 years since the Newsboys first appeared on the contemporary Christian music scene.
Most bands are fortunate to last half as long as the Newsboys have lasted.
The group’s illustrious history includes nine albums and numerous chart-topping singles. By the sounds of the group’s latest album, “Thrive,” the Newsboys could easily last another 14 years.
Their music continues to capture a unique blend of faith, adrenaline, and rock ‘n roll that is pure Newsboys.
As the band began to piece this album together, they sought the help of musician and longtime friend Steve Taylor.
Taylor had been involved in previous Newsboys projects through his writing and producing. His return on “Thrive” brings with it the trademark form that made albums like “Going Public” and “Take Me to Your Leader” so popular.
Newsboys frontman Peter Furler explained the theme of the album by saying, “To thrive is really to sing that ‘cold and broken hallelujah,’ to borrow a phrase from Leonard Cohen. When you’re at that place you realize how hard it is to lose yourself, your ambitions and your instinct of self preservation. I hope above all that it’s about what God’s doing in my life.”
