Not By Works

Not By Works

In response to the letter entitled “Salvation Stance” from Venlon Bradford of Winfield.

Baptists are losing their identity  — that is a fact. Few of us have ever studied the old study course book of “What Baptists Believe and Why They Believe It.” Having lived and worked in pioneer mission areas for a number of years and being challenged by many from various denominations and sects, one must spend time trying to understand others teachings to be effective in winning them to Christ.

The letter seems to say there is no difference in the plan of salvation between those mentioned groups. Was the letter pointing out that the three mentioned groups all teach “Baptismal Regeneration” or baptism is essential to salvation. The Mormons also teach a “salvation by works.” All true believers are saved “unto good works” but not by them. We work because we “have been saved” not in order “to be saved.”
